Every year I wake up one Saturday and find myself a prisoner in my own neighborhood. The streets are blocked by throngs of people I have never seen before are they roving through the neighborhood. Trucks with people in them stop at houses and fan out with the precision of a military operation. No, this is not a swat team maneuver; it is our annual garage sale. I see many households trading their junk with each other. Neighbor one's household clears a china closet out to their neighbor number two, number one buys a pool table from neighbor three , and everyone clears out their old clothes for .25 cents each.
Trying to leave my home, now becomes a measure of resourcefulness and restraint. When people see something at a house they must have often the will run to the house abandoning their vehicle in the street and blocking traffic until they can negotiate a price, pay, load and move on. These runners are part a of a professional group of garage salers that hits the garage sale at the initial time it opens. These people are called runners and are the primary suppliers to many "antique or Collectible stores" Many of the items they find Saturday morning are in stores by Saturday afternoon.
Do you think the garage sale is valuable? Or do you think that it exposes our neighborhood to groups of people who would otherwise not be familiar with our streets and homes. Should we keep it or re think it?

Hey Marc, come back to the regular blog, you are wasting your time here.
No thanks, I have nothing to do with that blog any more.
I am not going back there, I think I have postd my last post there. I am just going to focus on neighborhood issues.
Marc
I think the residents of South Shore Harbour should convey their potential dissatisfaction with Pinkerton’s Security if they allow common citizens "Behind the Gates".
Marc, the garage sale is the only we have to organize this kind of activity. Most people want a way to get rid of junk have a little extra cash. This kills two birds with one stone for me. I can give my wife the cash so that she will keep from hounding me for money and clean out the garage that she also fusses at me about. It is only twice a year for a Saturday morning. Besides what a great sport it is to watch the garage salers in action. I am going to put out my lawn chairs in my front yard, with not for sale on them, invite Milton over, some popcorn and drinks, and enjoy the show.
